A Comparison of Stressful Life Change Events Experienced by the 10th Grade and the 12th Grade Students

Abstract
This study was attempted to compare and analyze the units, numbers, and the severity of stressful life change events experienced by the 10th and the 12th grade students who have been thought to have psychiatric problems most.
The study was administered to 480 students of two senior high schools for boys- and girls in the department of humanities in Kwangju from May 23, 1983 to May 24, 1983. The students were composed of 240 from the 10th grade and as many form the 12th grade.
The instrument used in this study was the ALCEQ by Mendez and others. 38 events listed in the ALCEQ were amended, added or omitted, so that it consisted of 46 items.
Findings were as follows:
1. There was no distinctive difference in life change units between the 10th grade students and the 12th grade ones. But a significant difference was shown in 8 items (17.4%) out of 46, and hypothesis 1 was partially accepted.
2. There was no significant difference in the numbers of stressful life chance events between two groups (p.05).
3. There was no significant difference in the severity of life change events bet-ween two groups (p.05). But a significant difference was shown in two categories, and hypothesis 3 was partially accepted.
